This week, we will continue our study of Genesis 1 by looking at verses 6-8. These verses cover the second day of the Creation of the universe. So that we can get into the right mind, we should first pray and seek God’s wisdom. We want to understand the scriptures the way God meant them. We do not want to add anything from science or man’s ideas or read those things into the Bible. We also have to be careful that we don’t add to the scriptures anything that we’ve been taught growing up in church. This isn’t to say that everything that you’ve heard preached is wrong; what I’m saying is that we should understand what the scripture says first and then compare that to what we’ve heard or what science says. If they line up and make sense then we should be ok. If they don’t, then we need to cling to the scripture and either adjust or reject what we’ve heard or been taught. We should desire to take God at His Word. It is a good rule of thumb that if the plain reading of the passage makes sense, that is most likely the one that is meant. Continue Reading Genesis 1:6-8…

Ten members of a Christian aid team were murdered in northern Afghanistan on Aug. 5 after spending three weeks providing medical care to villagers, according to The New York Times (NYT).

Six Americans, a Briton, a German and two Afghans were ambushed when they stopped to eat lunch in Sharrun Valley, in the Hindu Kush mountains of northern Afghanistan. The Taliban, who have claimed responsibility for the killings, have accused the team of spying and being Christian missionaries. However, local police think the team was robbed and killed by local criminals. Continue Reading Persecution Fridays: Afghanistan…

With us beginning a new schedule for our blog and adding a Bible study, we believe that the best place to start at is the book of Genesis. This book is one of the most controversial of all those in the Bible. The book of Genesis provides the foundation of so many different doctrines that an understanding of this book is essential to anyone wanting to know the origin of Christian beliefs. In the book of Genesis, we find the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. The history in Genesis spans about 2,200 years of history. It includes a number of things that will be followed throughout the rest of scripture. Continue Reading Genesis 1:1-5…

What’s happening with the blog?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

For the two of you that still read this blog (thank you!), I wanted to let you know that starting next week there will be some changes. All of this is what I hope to do and may be subject to change depending on what is going on in my personal life.

Starting next week, Mondays we will be posting a Bible study that you can follow along with. We will be going “line by line” through different books of the Bible. As would be appropriate, we are going to start in Genesis! 🙂 This will be done by myself and the divisions of scripture will be dependent on what I can get done with proper study and prayer. Because designs have become sporadic lately, we are going to make Wednesdays the potpurri day. This will be a mix of designs, events, and other blogs that I have been studying for. Fridays will hopefully be a day of focus on what is happening to Christians around the world. We have been troubled by what happens to Christians outside of America and hope to provide a short glimpse of the trials, tribulations, and death that they face on a daily basis just for calling themselves Christian. Sundays will still be for newslinks and will still offer a mix of Christian stories to keep you up on the latest happenings from a Christian viewpoint.

We hope to be more diligent about getting things posted on time and appreciate your time and patience in reading this blog. We would be extremely grateful if you would add us to your blog roll, pass along the link to both the blog and our shop, and find our page on FB. Our main desire is to glorify God and see the lost find the gift of salvation in Jesus Christ, and we would like to thank you for reading this blog and hope to have much more interaction as the blog grows!

A Scout is…

On February 8th, 1910, William Boyce began an organization that has impacted millions of people over the course of 100 years. Mr. Boyce wanted to instill in young men the values of citizenship and morality, as well as life skills that will help them build solid relationships and families. Mr. Boyce is the founder of the Boy Scouts of America. This past week, thousands of scouts from all over the world converged on Ft. A.P. Hill in Virginia for the Jamboree celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Boy Scouts. The news focused on the fact that the President decided to go tape a session of “The View” rather than preside over the Jamboree as the honorary leader of the scouts. The news of the Jamboree struck a chord though.

I went through the scouting organization from Cub Scouts at eight years old to Eagle scout at eighteen and then on to be a leader for 4 years. The time that I spent in scouts allowed me a lot of things. It provided strong friendships that I still have today. It also gave me something consistent and conrete at a time when I moved around a lot and didn’t have a father figure to help me out. The men in my troop taught me the things that I would need to know as a man. One of these men eventually became my stepdad.

As I continued to think about the scouts, my mind drifted to the different things that we had to memorize. Things like the Scout Oath, Scout Law, Scout Motto, and Scout Slogan were things that we said at every meeting. These things were the foundation of why we were scouts and they gave us guidelines for our troop as well as our individual lives. I can still recite all of these things after years of not being affiliated with the scouting organization. In honor of my time in the scouts and the 100th anniversary of the organization that gave me so much, I just wanted to offer up some food for thought. Going over the Oath, Law, Motto, and Slogan; I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen if more people adopted these things in their lives. These different ideals are completely based in Christianity. They shouldn’t be used in place of Christ, but they could definitely be used as a pointer and guide to Christianity. (CNSNews.com)

When CNSNews.com asked for the greenhouse gas emissions inventory for the federal government operations in Washington, D.C., a spokesperson for the Energy Department said that greenhouse gas emissions are not measured by regions, but by each agency nationwide. The spokesperson also said that in the future, greenhouse gas emissions will be collected by zip code.

Lockerbie Probe May Prove Uncomfortable for Obama Administration
(CNSNews.com)
– The four Democratic U.S. senators probing the early release of the Libyan convicted in the Lockerbie bombing believe there were links to a BP oil deal, but their inquiry may have the unintended consequence of raising questions about just how strongly the Obama administration opposed the Libyan’s release. Scottish government ministers, stung by accusations that they released Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed al-Megrahi to ease a massive oil exploration contract in Libya, are pointing out that it is the U.S. government that is blocking the release of two documents relating to the decision.
