“For whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren.”

Romans 8:29

You will have noticed that in this chapter Paul has been expounding a very deep inward spiritual experience. He has written concerning the spirit of bondage and the spirit of adoption, the infirmities of the flesh and the help of the Holy Spirit. He writes of the waiting for the redemption of the body and the groans which cannot be uttered. It was most natural, therefore, that a deep spiritual experience should bring him to a clear perception of the Doctrines of Grace, for such an experience is a school in which alone those great Truths of God are effectually learned. A lack of depth in the inner life accounts for most of the doctrinal error in the Church. Continue Reading Sermon Sunday – Charles Spurgeon – Glorious Predestination…

Sermon Sunday – J.C. Ryle – Bible Reading

Next to praying there is nothing so important in practical religion as Bible-reading. God has mercifully given us a book which is “able to make [us] wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Timothy 3:15). By reading that book we may learn what to believe, what to be, and what to do; how to live with comfort, and how to die in peace. Happy is that man who possesses a Bible! Happier still is he who reads it! Happiest of all is he who not only reads it, but obeys it, and makes it the rule of his faith and practice! Continue Reading Sermon Sunday – J.C. For more news on what’s really happening to Christians around the world go to the Voice of the Martyrs website: www.persecution.com

A young Khmu woman is being persecuted by her family for converting to Christianity. The family of 17-year-old Phum has burned her Bible and hymnbook, forbade her to attend church and even threatened her life in attempts to persuade her to recant her faith.

Phum became a Christian after attending church with a friend in Oudomxay province. Impassioned to learn more about Christ, Phum studied her Bible and attended church every week. Knowing that her family would disapprove — especially her older brother, who works for the Lao Patriotic party — she tried to hide where she went each Sunday. I heard about this the other day and wasn’t really going to say anything about it, but I decided to go ahead and post something. Bill Nye has a 2 minute video on Youtube called “Creationism is Not Appropriate for Children” in which he makes a number of statements about the importance of science and the irrelevance of religion. He doesn’t come out and name a specific religion, but it’s not that hard to figure out which one he’s thinking of…I’ve posted a transcript of the video (seen here) and will also address a few of the comments he made a day or so later after Christians responded to his video. I’ve added links to a couple of those at the end of the post. Continue Reading Bill Nye’s Dilemma…
