This week’s Bible study is going to take us through a closer look at the fifth day of Creation. Let’s read the passage of scripture first:

Then God said, “Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.” God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind, and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.

Again we see the Lord focusing on a specific part of the creation and filling it with life. Before we get into the text, there are a couple of terms that we’ve already looked at that we see used here. The first is the word expanse, which we saw in our study of Day 2. If you’ll remember from our study, the expanse includes everything from the land of our planet to the space where the planets, stars, and suns exist. The birds fly above the earth in the expanse of the heavens. Later in the passage, we again see the phrase “after their kind”. Remember that this is an indication that each type of animal was originally made with all of the necessary genetic information for the variety of animals that we see today. As the animals continued to reproduce, the variety increased. Different events split up these animals into smaller groups and helped them continue to diversify, but they are still the same kind of animal. Continue Reading Genesis 1:20-23…

This week, we continue our look at the week of Creation. Today, we’ll be looking at the fourth day of Creation:

Then God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years; and let them be for light in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”; and it was so. God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, and to govern the day and the night, and to separate the light from the darkness; and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day. Continue Reading Genesis 1:14-19…

Genesis 1:6-8

This week, we will continue our study of Genesis 1 by looking at verses 6-8. These verses cover the second day of the Creation of the universe. So that we can get into the right mind, we should first pray and seek God’s wisdom. We want to understand the scriptures the way God meant them. We do not want to add anything from science or man’s ideas or read those things into the Bible. We also have to be careful that we don’t add to the scriptures anything that we’ve been taught growing up in church. This isn’t to say that everything that you’ve heard preached is wrong; what I’m saying is that we should understand what the scripture says first and then compare that to what we’ve heard or what science says. If they line up and make sense then we should be ok. If they don’t, then we need to cling to the scripture and either adjust or reject what we’ve heard or been taught. We should desire to take God at His Word. It is a good rule of thumb that if the plain reading of the passage makes sense, that is most likely the one that is meant. Continue Reading Genesis 1:6-8…

With us beginning a new schedule for our blog and adding a Bible study, we believe that the best place to start at is the book of Genesis. This book is one of the most controversial of all those in the Bible. The book of Genesis provides the foundation of so many different doctrines that an understanding of this book is essential to anyone wanting to know the origin of Christian beliefs. In the book of Genesis, we find the Creation, the Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. The history in Genesis spans about 2,200 years of history. It includes a number of things that will be followed throughout the rest of scripture. Continue Reading Genesis 1:1-5…

Design of the Week – Global Warming – Sketchy

I know that it’s been awhile since I promoted a design but this week’s was something quick and easy to do. The design is called Global Sketchy and is a text design that says, “Global Warming – we’re still a little sketchy on the science”. This design seems to be the epitome of what much of science has become. Science used to be about starting with a thought and looking to see if that thought had any merit in the natural world. Then the scientist would start looking at facts (real ones not made up ones) and evidence and then drawing a conclusion. If the thought was not supported by the evidence, the scientist would either lay the thought aside or toss it out completely. They wouldn’t continue wasting time trying to prove something that was ultimately unprovable. Instead, they would take the facts as they found them and move on to another thought to repeat the process.

Not so today. Today, many scientists are pushing thoughts and ideas that have no scientific support whatsoever in order to push their own agenda. They continue to change the facts, cook the numbers, and thickly veil everything they do in vague statements so that they can happily ignore what the evidence really says. Two major proofs of this are the evolutionary hypothesis and global warming. Continue Reading Design of the Week – Global Warming – Sketchy…
