Kazakhstan: Pastors Fined for Praying

Two pastors in Kazakhstan have been punished for praying for others. Pastor Vissa Kim appealed then paid his fine in 2010, while Pastor Yerzhan Ushanov was charged just weeks ago.

Pastor Ushanov of the New Life Protestant church in the city of Taraz, was charged on June 8, 2011 with “causing severe damage to health” under Criminal Code Article 111 by the National Security Committee (KNB). The alleged health damage came after Pastor Ushanov prayed for Aleksandr Kereyev in a church service. KNB secret police then raided his church’s Sunday worship service on June 19 and search the pastor’s home on June 25. The pastor faces a fine of between 100 and 200 times the minimum monthly wage, up to 200 hours of community service or two years’ imprisonment.

According to the indictment police gave Ushanov, Aleksandr Kereyev’s wife complained that her husband felt sick after the “hypnosis” allegedly conducted at the church. Kereyev had only visited the church three or four times, according to church members. Continue Reading Persecution Fridays – Kazakhstan – Pastors Fined for Praying…

Christ the Believer’s Husband
by
George Whitefield
(1714-1770)

Isaiah 54:5 – “For thy Maker is thy Husband.”

Although believers by nature, are far from God, and children of wrath, even as others, yet it is amazing to think how nigh they are brought to him again by the blood of Jesus Christ. Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither hath it entered into the heart of any man living, fully to conceive, the nearness and dearness of that relation, in which they stand to their common head. He is not ashamed to call them brethren. Behold, says the blessed Jesus in the days of his flesh, “my mother and my brethren.” And again after his resurrection, “go tell my brethren.” Nay sometimes he is pleased to term believers his friends. “Henceforth call I you no longer servants, but friends.” “Our friend Lazarus sleepeth.” And what is a friend? Why there is a friend that is nearer than a brother, nay as near as one’s own soul. And “thy friend, (says God in the book of Deuteronomy) which is as thy own soul.” Kind and endearing applications these, that undoubtedly bespeak a very near and ineffably intimate union between the Lord Jesus and the true living members of his mystical body! But, methinks, the words of our text point out to us a relation, which not only comprehends, but in respect to nearness and dearness , exceeds all other relations whatsoever. I mean that of a Husband, “For thy Maker is thy husband; the Lord of Hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel, the God of the whole earth shall he be called.” Continue Reading Sermon Sunday – George Whitefield – Christ, the Believer’s Husband…

Just in time for the Olympics, Vancouver is looking at making prostitution legal. Both the MP and governor of Vancouver have given their support to the legalization of prostitution.

Susan Davis, who is an active prostitute and the spokesperson for the “BC Coalition of Experiential Communities”, says that she is “weeks away” from getting the stamp of approval to become a corporation. Her “corporation” is looking at setting up a number of legalized bordellos “as an experiment” similar to the Vancouver safe injection site failure(where addicts could inject themselves with their own heroin/cocaine using clean needles under a nurse’s supervision). She claims that thousands of people will be pouring into the city looking for sex during the Olympics.

Ok, I’ve got to stop here and just let you know that my common sense tells me that this is an extremely bad idea. Not only is this a bad idea for the city of Vancouver, but it’s a bad idea for the women who choose a life of prostitution. Many of those against this new development echo these sentiments. They point out how other countries have already tried this and failed miserably. They have shown evidence that legalizing prostitution does more to protect the men using the women than it protects the women. Continue Reading Olympic bordellos?…
