Pakistan: The Power to Forgive

Shaken and still feeling the effects from an attack on their service, Numseoul Presbyterian Church publicly forgave the men who attacked them on Wednesday, June 1, 2011. Armed with guns, the nephew of a former legislator, Muhammad Shoaib, and four other men disrupted the church service three days earlier. “They were just out of control,” Pastor Ashraf Masih told Compass Direct News. “Shoaib and his men broke the glass altar of the church, threw copies of the Bible towards the wall and desecrated the cross.” The gang also beat three elderly Christians with bamboo sticks.

The attackers cursed the congregation for disrupting the peace by worshipping on loudspeakers, Masih said. However, the church uses loudspeakers only inside the church building, located in a rural area outside Lahore. “The loudspeakers on mosques are used all day long for prayers and sermons,” he said. “I fail to understand why this man has turned against us in the last few months.” Continue Reading Persecution Fridays – Pakistan…

Design of the Week – Regenerated

This week’s design is a new one hot off the presses. The design is called Regenerated!

The design is a play on the recycle emblem. It shows a gradient of color moving through it from a dark green through yellow to a dark blue. The upper and lower right arrows are normal, but the lower left one has broken out of the cycle and points heavenward. The design says “Reduced. Reused. Regenerated!”.

The point of the design is three-fold. First, it is a play on the recycle emblem. Being “green” is a big deal nowadays (depending on who you ask). But that is less important as the other two reasons. First, the design is meant to point to the fact that Christianity sees eternity differently from any other religion on the planet. In Hinduism, it is believed that people who die are reincarnated into another form. The form a person takes depends on how they lived their previous lives. If they lived rightly and did good things, they will come back as a better person with a better life. If they have been evil and horrible, they’ll come back as someone in a lower caste (even though the system is supposedly no longer in use). If they’re really bad, they’ll come back as a roach or beetle.

For atheists and secular humanists, death is the ultimate end. There is nothing afterward and we end up being worm food. For Buddhists, we just cease to exist. For “good” Muslims (those who actually follow the Quran), they might be allowed into heaven and gain 72 virgins. There are many other views as well, but none are like Christianity.

In the Christian faith, there are two ultimate outcomes depending on the events that take place in a person’s life. If a person spends their life living in sin (lying, lusting, murder, hatred, idolatry, etc.) and does not repent of their sins, they will find themselves before God being judged for those sins. They will then be cast into hell for eternity to pay for the sins that they’ve committed. However, if a person recognizes their sins and how God sees them in light of those sins, they can be born again (regenerated). To be born again, a person needs to recognize their sins, repent of those sins, and put their faith in Jesus Christ alone to save them from their sins. This is what has happened to every true Christian in history, and it can happen to you if you’ll repent and trust in Jesus…

Iran: Pastor Sentenced to Death

Christians in Iran are reporting that Pastor Youcef Nardarkhani has been sentenced to death for what is called a “thought crime.” VOM contacts confirm that the pastor’s trial was held in recent weeks in the 11th Chamber of The Assize Court of the province of Gilan, but a formal verdict has not yet been delivered by the court.

Pastor Youcef, a leader in the Full Gospel “Church of Iran” network, is one of several members of his church who have been imprisoned. The Iranian government has also threatened his wife with life imprisonment and has threatened to take away their two children, who are currently being cared for by relatives. Pastor Youcef was arrested in October 2009 after protesting a decision by the government requiring that his son study the Quran.

Media reports suggest that Pastor Youcef was transferred to Lakan prison, which is supervised by the Political Police of the Islamic Republic. If a death sentence is officially handed down by the court and Pastor Youcef is executed, his would be the first judicial execution of a Christian in Iran in two decades.

This arrest is the latest in a series of arrests of believers in Iran in the past year. Eighty-three Christians are known to have been arrested in Iran since the beginning of 2010. Of those, 65 were subsequently released, but 18 are still believed to be in custody.

The Voice of the Martyrs stands with and supports persecuted believers in Iran. VOM encourages you to pray for Pastor Youcef, his family and other believers in prison. Ask God to protect them and to embolden them to proclaim his name in the face of great persecution.

Ecumenism

Everyone has a cause or number of causes that they are passionate about. We seek out others of like mind to band together and make our voices heard. Depending on the cause, we may or may not agree with everything said and we weigh the causes based on this. Recently, Glenn Beck held a rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial that drew 300,000 – 400,000 people. The rally was labeled as a religious one and not a political one. Among those gathered were Muslims, Mormons, Evangelicals, Catholics, and other faiths. Throughout the day, the group was encouraged to turn to God and to rule themselves. This brings me to a question that I think that the church needs to consider very carefully. Continue Reading Ecumenism…

Reported Arrest of American Militant in Pakistan Could Lead to First Treason Trial in Decades

– Conflicting reports about the possible arrest of American al-Qaeda spokesman Adam Yahya Gadahn in Pakistan are focusing attention once again on the first person to be charged with treason against the United States in more than half a century. Pakistani officials told media organizations Sunday that Gadahn had been arrested in Karachi, Pakistan’s biggest city. In the years after 9/11, Gadahn appeared, sometimes masked, in a number of videos threatening violence against Americans and other Westerners. Continue Reading Newslinks 03/14/10…

Veterans

This Wednesday America will celebrate Veteran’s Day. With what recently happened in Fort Hood, it brought to mind some things that I just wanted to share. When I heard about the shootings in Texas, I was shocked. I couldn’t believe that it could happen on a military base. Of all of the places where someone should be safe, you would think it would be there. One of the first things found out about the shooter was that he was a Muslim. I can honestly say that I wasn’t shocked at all to hear this. More and more I’m finding it harder to tolerate all of the people in this country who talk about Islam being a religion of peace. Sure, the Islamic groups in this country have spoken out against the attack in Texas and even went so far as to call the man a coward. But, I can’t help but wonder if they would call all the other Muslims who have violently and aggressively attacked non-Muslims cowards? If so, then they either haven’t read the Quran or they haven’t been truthful. Those who are naive enough to believe that just because Muslims say that Islam is the religion of peace that means it’s true may be the same people who voted for the current president because they believed what he said to them.

Islam is not the religion of peace and I’ve talked about this in other blogs on this site. Anyone who has spent any time reading the Quran can see that peace through submission is only a paper thin facade for all out holy war against all non-Muslims (and sometimes even other Muslims who disagree). What I don’t understand is why people are still buying into the lie and trying to promote peace between Muslims and other religions when Muslims don’t want it? What really irritates me is when it is Christians who promote the ecumenism. Don’t they realize that Muslims don’t believe that Jesus is God? How can there be any common ground? The tragedy in Fort Hood is a direct result of the post-modern moralism that has taken over our country. And unless something is done to change it, things will only get worse… Continue Reading Veterans…
