The other day on my “safe for the whole family” radio station, I was listening to the ~Christian~ hosts talk about children, youth, and young adult ministries. I will preface all of this with the fact that I find it really hard to listen to much “Christian” radio anymore. The topics of discussion seem to have no real value and the music isn’t much better. There is no theological discussion, as you’re about to see. Instead, it seems like it’s just a bunch of church-going people who are trying to be “relevant” and sound like the world so that they will gain unbelieving listeners. Then, they can sneak the name of Jesus in on them (which they always seem to forget to do…) and maybe make a false convert. Continue Reading Church Business…

When you take a look at the world today, much of what goes on is based on image. How things look dictate a lot of how we live our lives. What the weather looks like determines what we wear, where we go, and what we do. What a person looks like often causes us to make a  quick, all-inclusive judgment as to the person’s demeanor, their lifestyle, and possibly even their childhood. A large majority of the items that we buy today are bought based on their image. Ad companies try to make everything from clothes to cars to cigarettes more appealing by giving them an image that will draw people in, regardless of whether the product is really as good as they say it is (which is seldom the case). Movies, TV shows, magazines, and music are all given a special image that the producers hope will cause millions of people to part with either time or money for that product. They strive to make each image unique so that it “stands out” from the rest of the products. Continue Reading Image…

Love

This weekend, men and women will be celebrating love on Valentine’s Day. They will wining and dining in their best clothes. They will be giving candy, flowers, perfumes/colognes, and other assorted gifts and goodies to show that special someone just how much they love them.  Love will be in the air and romance will be the word of the day. If it’s really strong, a song might be dedicated or even written.  All of this in the name of love. None of this is bad, in and of itself. If you are in love then you should celebrate that. But I want to ask you something that you may not have given any attention to. Do you know true love? Do you know what love really is (I really have to get that Foreigner song out of my head…)?   Continue Reading Love…

Design of the Week – Clown

This week’s design is called Clown (I know, it’s pretty original…). The design came to mind while I was thinking about how silly some of the arguments against Christianity are and how arrogant some of the attackers are. They purport to know for a fact that God doesn’t exist or that He’s really a different “god” altogether.

For instance, atheists say that they know for a fact that God doesn’t exist and that there is absolutely no evidence for His existence, and yet, they breathe His air, walk on His earth, and live in His graces every day.  They promise the public school kids that evolution is a fact, but the entire story changes every time they find a new tooth or fossilized impression. Their entire hypothesis is based on conjecture and “what-ifs” that they have yet to show any concrete proof for. Continue Reading Design of the Week – Clown…

If you love me…

With Valentine’s Day coming up, the eyes of many people will be focusing on love. They will be planning their “date night” with flair and pizzazz. They will dot every “i” and cross every “t” so that they can “set the mood”. Why are they doing all of this? It’s because they love their spouse. They will rush out and by the most outrageous things, break their necks to get this item or that item just right, and fret or worry about the smallest details for that one night. While I suspect that for most people this is more or less done out of selfishness (“what’s in it for me?”), I wouldn’t be surprised to find a few who truly do it for somewhat non-selfish reasons.

All this flurry of preparation brought to mind something that hit me hard. Watching the people line the shelves with stuffed monkeys and chocolates, watching the people carefully pick out the best flowers or the most appropriate card; it all made me wonder about something. As I got to thinking about it, I realized that it was a personal thing too. Continue Reading If you love me……
