Many people today, inside and outside the church, have become focused on self. They are all about them and what they can do. They often don’t know or care what God has done for them. Those who aren’t professing Christians can’t see that their very life is a gift from God. Sadly, this affects the gospel. When people don’t understand what God has done for them or why He did it, is cheapens the gospel and lessens the effect the good news can have in a person’s life. When pastors don’t preach the true gospel, the people listening don’t receive what they need to hear to help them understand who God is and what He’s done for them. There is still hope!

I am an American. I am proud of my country and the rich history of Christian heritage that I have as a United States citizen. Today, I am reminded of many things. Yesterday, against the will of the majority of Americans, the House of Representatives of the US Congress passed a bill that will completely overhaul the health care system in America. They claim that it is proof that the federal government still works for the people. They claim that it is a “victory for the American people”. All of this after months of arm-twisting, inside deals to bully government officials into voting for this monstrosity. Add to this the misrepresentation of every proceeding and what the bill actually says. This bill will add to our debt and completely destroy the American ideal. We will slowly become more like other countries who have been trying to make socialized medicine work for years and failing miserably. From a political standpoint, there is still hope that the bill can be killed through reconciliation. Outside of that, there is hope that my state and many others will enact legislation that will exempt those states from unconstitutional federal laws under the power given to the states in the ninth and tenth amendments. But that’s not the hope that I’m talking about. Continue Reading There is still hope!…

The importance of family

As our nation and the world continue to struggle with societal woes, everyone rushes around searching for the answers. They run tests, perform studies, and survey people to find out what is going on. In all of this, they neglect the very thing that can help them fix all of the problems that we will ever face.

In America, the problems continue to grow as the government no longer cares to listen to the people it governs. Instead, it sits in its ivory tower with ears plugged and tells the country exactly what is best for it without having a shred of evidence that this is so. Meanwhile, the things that America so desperately needs continue to dwindle away to nothing. Those things that have made this nation what it is disappear at a growing rate, being eroded by the newest fad or the most recent study. One of the main things that is becoming endangered is the biblical family. Continue Reading The importance of family…

It seems that in the American church’s rush to appease the lost and the non believers (I was going to say pagans but that would probably offend someone), or their effort to bilk trusting, tested Christians of all the money they have by “sowing their seed”; the church has forgotten one of its greatest tools. Ok, I don’t think that they’ve forgotten it as much as they’ve tossed it aside for church growth plans and light-hearted, shallow events that bring people in based on their greed and have them leaving the same way (if they’re lucky). Now, any pastor can pick whatever they want to say and then go traipsing through the scriptures and cherry-pick whatever verses they want to support their “sermon”. To do this, of course, they have to twist the scriptures until they squeeze every last drop of life out of them; but the ends justifies the means even if the means completely destroys the foundation upon which the “sermon” should be built on.

This attitude bleeds to the flock of the “shepherd” over time until the entire group goes through the Bible picking out “life verses” and “claiming” specific verses as “theirs”. After awhile, the church is full of puffed up men and women who expect everything from God because they can string together a group of verses that have no real connection and then muster up their most faith filled voice to command Him to bring it to pass right now because they deserve it. Mix in the idea that we have to look blessed (whatever that looks like) and act blessed even if we don’t have two nickels to rub together and you’ve got a large portion of America’s churches.

So, what is this missing tool? What is the thing that would stop all of this nonsense? Hermeneutics. Continue Reading Do they apply?…

This week’s design is called Mindreader. It is a design that is brought about by a thought that I have had numerous times. What if?

What if someone put a computer chip behind your ear and it recorded everything you thought, saw, and did for a week. Then, after that week, those recordings were retrieved and posted on Youtube for your wife, kids, parents, and friends to see. Would you change anything that you’re doing? What if there were a bubble above your head that showed everyone else what you were thinking at that very moment? When you looked at that woman/man with lust, everyone else knew it. When you were lying to your spouse, they would instantly know. Any time you did something that you know is wrong, everyone else around you would know it clearly. Your thoughts would have lasting effects wouldn’t they? Continue Reading Design of the Week – Mindreader…

Today, we hear a lot of people saying a lot of things with a lot of emotion. Sometimes they tug at the heartstrings and other times they get us fired up. Men tell women they love them like their spouse is the only one in the world. Pastors preach “with fire”, walking across the stage and pumping their fist to get us energized. Fathers tell their children how special they are to them. Politicians tell us that they are doing their best to work for us and accomplish the things that we desire to see happen in our country.

But….do they mean it?

Does it mean that a man loves his wife just because he can say the words with the right smoothness and the correct tilt of his eyebrow and make his wife feel like the only woman on the planet? Does it mean that a pastor’s message is true because he walks around hollering and being animated? Does it mean that a child is special because its father says so? Are politicians really doing their best for those they represent just because they say so? Continue Reading If God were your Father……
