This design came from thoughts about Elijah and his life. It was born out of frustration with the lack of reverence for the things of God that I see in the modern church. I remembered not only the prophets of Baal and how God answered Elijah’s pleas. I also remembered the Lord’s response to him when the king sought to bring him in and sent soldiers in arrogance and pride. Two troops of fifty men were consumed in fire because of their arrogance toward the prophet and man of God.

How often do we act in arrogance toward God? How often do we do things our way and hope that God blesses them instead of doing things His way and knowing they’ll be blessed?

This design also brings up a question I’ve thought a lot about lately. What if God were to act toward us like He did in the Old Testament or early New Testament? What if He were to consume people for offering improper sacrifices (Leviticus 10)? What if He were to drop someone on the spot for lying about what they’ve given (Acts 5)? Would we turn our hearts back to God?

Or would we continue to be like those who Peter talks about in 2 Peter 3? Would we continue to mock Him saying, “He said that He was coming, and yet everything is like it’s always been! He’s not coming yet…”? Would we be like Noah or would we be like those that he preached to?

“Flood? You must be crazy? Judgment? Ha! That’s not going to happen! We choose to eat, drink, be merry, sin, and live our lives the way we want to. IF it’s going to happen, it’s not going to be while we’re alive! ”

What will it take for us as the body of Christ to turn back to God and repent for our sins? Will it take fire from heaven?
