Merry Christmas!

It is just a few days before Christmas and I wanted to take the time to just wish everyone a Merry Christmas!

It is my hope that you will not get so caught up in the commercial holiday that you will forget the simple truth that we celebrate. It is my prayer that you will not get so caught up in the giving of gifts that you will forget the greatest gift given to mankind. It is my hope that you will not get so caught up in what you received from men that you will be unable to receive life and salvation from God.

I know that many of us will be busy for the next few days, preparing food, visiting and receiving visitors, spending time with family and friends. All of this is good and should be done, and not just during the Christmas season. But, I wanted to encourage you to take some time each day (especially on Christmas) to rejoice over what God has done. To thank Him for His majesty, grace, justice, holiness, mercy, righteousness, and most of all His Son. Over the next few days, we will get gadgets and gizmos, toys, games, clothes, and many other niceties. I pray that throughout the weekend and the Christmas holiday that you will take the time to give the greatest gift to that family member that you don’t see very often! I pray that you will take the time to share the truth of the gospel and the sacrifice of the Christ with them. I pray that you will look for value from God’s perspective and not give anyone a chance to be around you without hearing the gospel.

I also wanted to encourage you to look ahead. I know that we are busy now, but it won’t be long before we celebrate a new year and the hope of a new chance at life. It is during the New Year that so many make resolutions. I would ask that you would take the time during the New Year’s celebration to look at your life. To ask God to show you the things that need to be changed so that you may glorify Him. I would ask that you make a resolution to read His Word daily and then take what you read and apply it to your life. That is the only true way to be changed and to see your life look more like Christ’s. I would ask that you look at the things that you’re doing that you know are wrong and that you stop doing them. If you’re lying, stealing, fornicating, worshipping an idol; whatever it is you’re doing that is bringing dishonor to God, please stop. The people that God has put around you are there that you could be a light to them. You are supposed to reflect Jesus to those who don’t know Him. Are you? Is the life that you’re living now a true reflection of who Jesus is or, is it an image of a Savior distorted by sin and worldly living?

I hope and pray that you have a wonderful Christmas. I hope that you see the truth about what Jesus did and remember that it was this little child that grew up to take upon Himself the sins of the world. This little child took your place and my place on the cross and took our judgment. If you don’t know Jesus, repent from your sins and start being obedient. If you do know Jesus, then I challenge you to make an effort to shine brighter, walk farther, and be bolder this coming year!

Merry Christmas!
